An immersive VR experience for learning the Solar System

A sequential, guided journey combining narrated storytelling, interactive mini-games, and NASA-accurate visuals

This case study explains how we helped design and develop Space Explorers, an educational VR project that takes users on a guided tour of the Solar System from the deck of a virtual spacecraft.

The platform allows visitors to “travel” between planets along a predefined route, learn through presence rather than text-heavy explanations, and conclude the session with a light interactive mini-game. The solution is optimized for first-time VR users and for public installations such as museums, schools, and planetariums.

We built a Unity-based VR app integrating VR Interaction Framework for smooth navigation and interaction.

Users travel between planets along a pre-defined route, while narrated voiceovers deliver educational content in a sequential and accessible manner.

An asteroid-shooting mini-game concludes the journey, offering light interaction that reinforces engagement without overwhelming users.

We recreated planets using NASA reference imagery and optimized shaders, materials, and scene setups to maintain high FPS and visual comfort during long sessions.

The experience supports multiple languages, making it suitable for diverse audiences in museums, planetariums, and schools.

Operators can adjust how many planets are visited per session to fit scheduling needs, balancing educational depth and audience attention spans.
