This case study explains how we transformed a technically overloaded WordPress and WooCommerce website into a fast, stable, and scalable system. At the beginning of the project, the WordPress and WooCommerce platform was experiencing multiple systemic issues that were affecting performance, stability, and scalability.
The platform suffered from slow page load times, high server load, an overloaded architecture, and a large number of installed plugins.
Over time, technical debt had accumulated and negatively impacted system performance, leading to frequent outages and the need for almost daily server restarts.Although Redis caching had already been implemented, it was incorrectly configured. Instead of improving performance, Redis frequently caused timeouts and cache instability due to inefficient object storage and improper cache lifetime configuration.
Additionally, the WooCommerce catalog had become increasingly heavy due to outdated products, duplicated attributes, excessive variations, and a bloated database structure. The wp_postmeta table in particular had grown significantly and slowed down both frontend queries and admin panel operations.
The project required a comprehensive system-level optimization rather than isolated performance fixes.

Our team implemented a structured optimization strategy addressing infrastructure, application logic, database performance, and code quality.
During the project, we delivered the following solutions:
Initial technical audit
We started with a full technical analysis of the platform, including theme architecture, database structure, plugin ecosystem, and server configuration. This audit helped identify the most critical performance bottlenecks and allowed us to build a prioritized optimization roadmap based on real impact.

Redis stabilization and caching optimization
We analyzed timeout triggers and cache behavior, optimized object storage strategy, reduced the lifetime of heavy cache keys, and improved cache invalidation logic. We also lowered memory pressure caused by inefficient cache usage.
As a result, Redis transitioned from a source of instability into a reliable performance layer that significantly improved backend response times.

Performance optimization
We implemented both frontend and backend performance improvements. On the frontend side, we removed unused CSS and JavaScript, optimized script loading, introduced proper asset minification, improved image delivery, and refined lazy loading behavior.
On the backend side, we optimized heavy database queries, reduced excessive meta queries, refined cron job execution, and improved server-side caching configuration. These changes significantly improved page load speed and reduced server resource consumption.

WooCommerce cleanup and restructuring
We removed obsolete products, cleaned duplicate attributes, optimized the variation structure, and eliminated unnecessary attribute combinations. We also removed orphaned metadata and optimized the database structure. This resulted in faster product queries, improved admin panel performance, and increased scalability of the catalog.

Code refactoring and technical debt reduction
We improved the platform’s architecture by removing duplicated logic, simplifying complex functions, and standardizing development patterns.
Business logic was separated more clearly, and file organization was improved to make the codebase easier to maintain and extend.
These changes reduced the risk of regressions and improved long-term development efficiency.

Plugin ecosystem optimization
The platform had accumulated a large number of plugins over time.
We audited all installed plugins, removed redundant ones, reduced overlapping functionality, and replaced heavy plugins with lighter alternatives where possible.
This significantly reduced system overhead and improved platform stability.

Security hardening
Finally, we strengthened the platform’s security by reviewing roles and permissions, hardening administrative access, updating outdated dependencies, and improving the handling of user input and sensitive data. This reduced the attack surface and improved overall platform security posture.
